If they weren’t stuck in their homes or left waiting for the plow, residents began the long process of digging out Saturday from a blizzard that experts say was even more ferocious than the Blizzard of 1978.
On side roads the plows simply didn’t come, as state and municipal workers struggled just to clear main arteries leaving thousands of residents trapped. Meriden’s official reading was 23 inches, but many residents told the Record-Journal on social media pages that they had measured upward of 30 inches at their homes
